José
Gurvich Foundation was created in Montevideo at
the end of the year 2001 with the objective of promoting
Uruguayan artist José
Gurvich's work and life. Before setting up this
Foundation, the artist's widow and his son devoted privately
to the diffusion of his work.
During the last few years, the Gurvich family was devoted
to establishing the Foundation with the idea of incorporating
more support from other people in order to promote José
Gurvich's work. After elaborating the by-laws of the
Foundation, it was established as a legal person by
the Ministry
of Education and Culture.
Founders donated considerable amounts of money, books,
catalogs, illustrations, postcards and the usufruct
of 5 permanent collections for a minimum of 5 years.
These collections are: oil
paintings, works
on paper, murals,
sculptures and
objects.
They also conveyed the copyrights on the reproduction
of José Gurvich's work for commercial purposes
for the Foundation benefit.
